I'm writing this down because i just realized the 'importance of blogging', why sites
like twitter exist, why sites like facbook have a 'notes' section in them...
Blogs are to gen-Y what diary entries were to the gen-A,B,....& so on till gen-X, the
differences being that the traditional pen/pencil are replaced by keypad, the paper
notepad/diary is replaced by microsoft wordpad/notepad and lastly the availaility factor:
diaries being available to the select few who could discover them beneath the releams of
time; blogs, however , are available to any person who knows how to push certain buttons
on a PC that enable him to open google, again press some buttons that enable him to search
on google and of course, he should know what he is searching for.
You'll notice the revolution brought about by blogs when i quote this simple example:
To know about the exploits of the legendary hindi poet Shri Harivansh Rai Bacchan you'll
have to go to the nearest Crossword/ Higginboham's /Book world or whichever bookstore you
prefer, buy (ya right, spend some money!) a copy of his biography which would contain some
excerpts of his diary. On the other hand,to know what his son, the legendary hindi cinema
actor, Shri Amitabh Bacchan did before having his dinner tonight, you just have to open
up internet explorer/mozilla firefox/ google chrome (again, whichever internet browser
you prefer), and log on to his blog to find out! (ya right, its free! yipee!)
Coming to the similarities between blogging and diaries, which is the more significant
topic, blogs, like diaries, help in preserving memories in the form of memoirs, which can
be accessed at a later stage, not only by the person who wrote the blog but also by his
peers, to look back upon some cherished or not-so-cherished moments involving them.
Speaking of access, along comes a negative point assosiated with blogs- they can be accessed
by far too many people, even sometimes by those whom you don't want anywhere near your
personal lives. For example, if i become the country's Prime Minister in future, i don't
want Aaj Tak's breaking news to be "Apni English teacher se darte the Bharat ke pradhan
mantri, puraane blog mein kiya khulasa, dekhiye Vishesh aaj raat nau baje" - That would be
embarassing now, would't it? Returning to the positives of bolgging, blogs provide the
platform to express oneself informally, without any requisite of formats etc.; even slangs
and sms lingo is absolutely hip, wich rox, if u knw wht m talkin abt.
So, having written a sufficiently long blog to encourage you to blog,i now conclude,
hoping that you will ...., ya that's right, BLOG!! Blog on facebook, blog on twitter,
blog on orkut, blog wherever you feel like blogging and provide others with an insight
of the REAL YOU. Signin off...
